This week we have started our letters and sounds activities and have been doing some fun activities to help us with Phase one, Aspect one – Environmental Sounds. One of our activities we have done is making Dancing Drumsticks.
On Monday we went outside in our play area and did a stick hunt. The children really enjoyed running around the garden looking for all different sized sticks and collecting as many as they could. When it was time to come in we counted the sticks, and we had collected 20 all together. On Tuesday we made the sticks into wonderful dancing drumsticks by putting paint, glue, glitter and features on them and left them to dry. The children were really pleased with all of their drumsticks and couldn’t wait to use them to dry. On Thursday we went outside and used them to do our drumstick dance. We banged the sticks against different objects in the play area and listened to the different sounds that they made, talking about how each one sounded different. The children loved doing this activity and enhancing their listening skills.
